Flayme rules!

Postby mydoghasfleas » 09 Sep 2008, 09:48

Flayme, I had no idea how accomplished (and busy!) you are until I discovered you posting on another forum, apparently a sort of home base for trolls. Putting up with all that flaming, swearing and childish bluster in a valiant effort to show them how silly they are and reform them. I was almost tempted to register myself and lend you support but you seem to be doing well enough on your own!

Kudos for taking the battle to the trolls. If there were more like you, the Internet might be reclaimed for adults.

I'd love to know more about this side of what you do. Are you on other forums as well? Are there others involved? Please, tell us all!

Not me. What made you think it was?

Because it was your name and picture, and this site was mentioned... Now I'm confused.

Do you know what forum I'm referring to? I'll see if I can find it again and post a link if that's appropriate.

Don't worry, it doesn't matter :)

(and I certainly wouldn't want to advertise such a place!)

I do post on other forums, but I don't recall one like the one you describe; I certainly haven't posted regularly in any such place - though it reminds me of my membership of 'alt.flame' about ten years ago!

I can't imagine anyone thinking they could 'reform' a bunch of trolls in their own forum!

It probably wasn't as bad ten years ago; there was some quite intelligent 'verbal duelling' in amongst the boring four-letter words and terminal idiots!

I was a regular for a few weeks, as I recall - and by the time I left, I'd killfiled pretty much all the other regulars .

Well I found it again but won't post it, don't want to help them out as you say. I have to admit I am a bit disappointed it wasn't you because he/she seemed to be provoking a good amount of animosity, but I respect the fact you know when to ignore harmless mischief, if that's all it is. Personally, I think I would be concerned about my personal and professional information being bandied about by such nasty aggressive people, but that is probably because I haven't been around as long as you have. Sorry for the false alarm and keep up the good work!

I don't much like having my name adopted by others - but there's not a lot I can do about it, and in the kind of venue we're talking about, it really isn't going to do me any harm.

I consider it an 'occupational hazard' of having a public stance on these issues. It's happened before; last time whoever it was got bored after a while, and I suspect much the same will happen this time.

Here's the thing (I love that phrase!); if they 'pretend to me' at all convincingly, then they have to support the things I support, and not put up with the fools and idiots. If they 'let me down', then no-one would ever believe it's me.

From what you say, mini-me is doing a reasonable job, so good luck to him!

If I made a fuss, chances are it'd get worse before it got better.

And, quite frankly, I can't be bothered ;)

(but thanks for letting me know!)
