I have a person that is behaving like a troll on a forum that I am on. he follows me around to every post that I make and leaves horrifying comments and irrelevant material. I called him out on being a troll and now he is creating new posts about me saying the most horrific things. I find it amusing that he has to predicate his whole existence around me but I am afraid he is going to lose his real world button eventually because you see I am an author and my books are linked to my forum account and if he does a search on my name from the book with the yellow pages for every person that lives in my area he may find out where I live.

First, deal with the matter better on the forum.

IGNORE him - stop feeding him.
Make a formal complaint to the owner / manager / moderator - do they really want trolls running amok and upsetting contributors?

If that fails, then consider you membership - do you want to be a member of a forum that allows such idiots? And when you join other forums, join under a false name and keep your real ID separate, at least until you are sure you have not been followed.

That's a real risk, but a small one; unless something he's said suggests it? If you have real evidence (threats etc) that link to the real world, then you must go to the police.

Meantime, start collecting evidence of his activities - it may not matter now, but will be useful if he does turn real worldly.

Thanks for the advice, I reported him and the moderator applied a 30 day ban after he took one of my posts and took selected quotes out of it to make me seem perverse or something.

That's a start.

But never respond to the guy; just keep up a correspondence with the moderator as and when you need to - always be civil, stick to the facts - always show that you are the reasonable one.

Good Luck!

Now that the troll is gone all the troll's friends, all three of them are now harassing my friends all paranoid about his booting and making up lies. One of them are harassing one of my female friends calling her a whore and that and claims that she booted the original troll and that he is going to do rather obscene things to her. Do trolls normally come in clusters like this, I was standing up for the people on the board and now this new guy and his wife who like the first troll are hiding their identity behind a private profile so you can't see who you are talking to is continuing where troll A left off. Do I just repeat the process with this new one and get my friends to do the same?

Don't get involved at all.

It's the moderator's problem now, not yours. You did the right thing, now anything you do can only undermine it.

You could tell your friends (privately) what happened - but even that may add to the problems.

It's an issue mainly (I suspect) because the moderator didn't step in sooner, before the slug got established.

No matter; think long term; things will settle down, and hopefully the moderator won't need prompting next time.
